Nourishing Champions: Side-by-Side Nutrition Workshops for Parents and Young AthletesThis event creates a collaborative learning environment where both parents and athletes gain insights into proper nutrition for fuelling performance and maintaining health. Nourishing Champions includes two interactive workshops: one for parents and adults, and another for young athletes, followed by a combined session for everyone.The workshops will cover key topics, including:Balanced meals: Teaching both groups how to create well-rounded meals that provide the energy needed for training and recovery.Nutritional needs during training and competition: Focusing on hydration, protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins essential for peak performance.Healthy habits at home: Involving both parents and athletes in meal planning and grocery shopping to support consistent, healthy eating.Supplements and sports drinks: Discussing when, if ever, supplements should be used and how to choose safe, effective products.Recovery: Emphasising the importance of nutrition in supporting recovery and building resilience.These workshops are designed to equip both parents and athletes with the tools they need to succeed together!Keynote Speakers: Jeni Pearce - Performance Nutritionist at High Performance Sport NZJeni Pearce is an esteemed figure in New Zealand's sports nutrition scene, as Performance Nutritionist at High Performance Sport NZ. With a rich background working across diverse sports, she's a prolific author and researcher, recognised with the Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for her outstanding service in sports nutrition.Hannah Hoeksema - NZ Registered DietitianHannah is a New Zealand Registered Dietitian currently working at the Auckland Diabetes Centre, where she has specialized in diabetes for the past two years. In her role, she also has the opportunity to support athletes—predominantly track and field athletes and marathon runners—with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.Hannah has provided nutrition support for the New Zealand Breakers basketball team, volunteered her services to school-based sports academies, and is beginning to work with amateur runners through two run clubs in which she is a member. She is currently pursuing accreditation as a sports dietitian through Sports Dietetics Australia.Her interest in sports nutrition stems from her own competitive background having represented New Zealand as a member of the U20 Junior Football Ferns and later competing as a Division 1 Student-Athlete in the United States on a college soccer team. Now, she enjoys long-distance running, having completed her first ultra-marathon at the beginning of the year.Ultimately, Hannah is passionate about sports nutrition and she endeavours to support athletes in reaching their full potential and peak performance outcomes through athlete-centered, evidenced based nutrition strategies.Whether you're an athlete, parent, or coach, this event offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of nutrition and to support young athletes in reaching their full potential.
