Nelson Tasman Youth Workers Collective, in partnership with A-OK, the National Centre for Suicide Prevention proudly presents Checkmate - Youth Suicide Prevention Training. A Community focussed, clinically safe, and culturally responsive training to equip youth workers with the skills to recognise and support young people at risk of suicide.
The workshop provides essential skills for anyone working with youth, whānau, and the community, focusing on recognising and responding to distress signals. Learn how to apply the CHECK steps to effectively connect with and support young people, ensuring safety and empathy in every interaction.
Participants will develop and refine engagement skills so they can undertake life-supporting conversation with young people in way that is both safe and effective. Additionally participants will;
• evaluate safe coping and support resources
• gain an understanding of the factors that contribute to being at risk of suicide
• identify what to look for when someone may be at risk of suicide
• learn how to engage different services and supports to get help
