A group show of New Zealand-born Samoan and Tongan artists responding to the events of the Dawn Raids in the 1970s and its subsequent ramifications on Pasifika people in Aotearoa New Zealand. To allow for healing and understanding, A Niu Dawn challenges and educates on a dark and lesser-known part of our recent history. ‘Niu’, the Samoan word for coconut (a derogatory term for Pasifika people), pronounced like ‘new’ suggests a fresh beginning.

The assistance of Creative New Zealand— Pacific Arts Strategy towards this exhibition is gratefully acknowledged.

Artists: Linda Va'aelua, Elisabeth Kumaran, Siliga David Setoga, Gary Silipa, Sione Faletau and Christian Alaimoana-Turner.
