Start Date: Saturday 26 October 2024

Venue: Kumutoto Stream, Wellington

Doors Open: 12:00pm

Time: 12:00pm - 02:00pm

Restrictions: All Ages

This walk is part of the "Many Walks of Wellington's Streams" event for the Wellington Heritage Festival 2024. This approx 90 min walk will trace the path of the Kumutoto stream from it's culvert outflow pipe near the Ngā Kina sculpture on the Wellington Waterfront to it's headwaters recently discovered at the Living Pā at Vic Uni, or at the top of the Cable Car in Kelburn for those wishing an easy trip back to the city centre. During the walk we wil experience and discuss the site of Kumutoto Kainga, the Kumutoto sound installation installed in 2014 by artist Kedron Parker, the Kumutoto native forest and of course the small section of stream still above ground, near the bottom of Salamanca Rd in Kelburn. This walk is approx 2.5km in length and has an elevation of 123m so a reasonable level of fitness is required. As we will be crossing busy streets and walking dirt tracks, all participants will be required to sign a health and safety waiver to ensure they can take responsibility for their safety during the duration of the walk. Children under 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.*Note: Please follow the Facebook page for any updates to the walk including weather postponement.
