You are invited to attend this hīkoi alongside Liz Mellish, Amokura, Te Kāhui o Hūnuku Whenua ‘Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust’ and Amokura, Te Raukura, Te Wharewaka o Pōneke and whānau.
Embark on a guided hīkoi (walk) to discover, learn, and understand the rich layers of Māori history in Te Whanganui a Tara, with a focus on Pipitea Pā and surrounds.
‘Pipitea Pā Hīkoi’ – Tū Tama Roto, Tū Tama Waho (To know ourselves is to know others) will begin at Pipitea Marae. Stops will include, Sky Stadium (Raukura, Maunga/Kohatū/Hammerhead), Sculpture (waka) Aaron Te One, GSB Building, Pipitea Stream, Wellington Girls College, Archives/National Library and the American Embassy.
The hīkoi will finish with a hot drink and guided tour of the new interpretation panels at Old St Pauls on Mulgrave Street.
This event will be facilitated by Liz Mellish, Richard Te One, Te Karanga Marino and Taylor Ramsbottom, and supported by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga.
Note: Moderate fitness level required as you will be walking and standing for a minimum of 1 hour.
