Lime Scooters launches in Tauranga City!

Thursday 29 October 2020

It’s Lime Time Tauranga! The world’s largest micro-mobility company, Lime, arrived in the bay last month launching 200 electric scooters across the Tauranga CBD, Mount Maunganui and Papamoa. Lime operates e-scooters and e-bikes in more than 120 markets in 30 countries.

In New Zealand, Lime also operates in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch, Selwyn District and Dunedin.

Lime will operate up to 400 scooters across the three communities over the next 12 months as part of a trial approved by Tauranga City Council.

Lime’s New Zealand public affairs manager, Lauren Mentjox, said Lime is incredibly excited about coming to Tauranga.

“Tauranga City Council has taken a progressive approach to the trial and we are delighted to be working with them to enhance micro-mobility options for residents and visitors as we head into summer,” she says.

“Our mission is to reduce reliance on cars to make our communities healthier, more vibrant places and we can’t wait to see Tauranga locals enjoying our safe, reliable and convenient transport option.”

Safety is the company’s top priority and Lime will use geofencing technology to limit the scooters from going faster than 15km/h in certain areas.

Riders will also be invited to take part in Lime’s “First Ride” programme, which consists of a 30-minute hands-on scooter safety course for new riders to learn to ride in a safe environment. The programme also covers parking etiquette.

Thanks to an exclusive partnership with Uber, the scooters can be hired on both the Uber and Lime platforms. Riders who use the Lime app will be able to take advantage of special promos and Lime Pass daily and monthly offers.

Lime scooters can be hired between 5am and midnight seven days a week with a 10pm curfew on Friday and Saturday in downtown Mount Maunganui and the city centre.
