Spotify Plans Global Price Hikes as Premium Subscriptions Hit 268 Million

Spotify is preparing to raise subscription prices across several international markets this summer, even as its Premium Subscriber base hits a record 268 million. According to the company’s latest financial results for Q1 2025, released April 29, Spotify’s paid subscriber count grew 12% year-over-year, adding 5 million net new subscribers from the previous quarter and surpassing its own forecast by 3 million.

The upcoming price increases—expected to roll out across Europe and Latin America by June—will see individual monthly subscriptions rise by roughly €1. Markets like the Netherlands and Luxembourg have already seen individual Premium plans jump 18%, while Family and Duo plans increased by 22% and 20%, respectively. The U.S., which saw a price hike in mid-2024, is not included in this round.

Spotify also reported its highest Q1 net adds since 2020, alongside a record €509 million ($535.6m) in quarterly operating income, just below its guidance of €548 million. CEO Daniel Ek cited strong engagement and retention as key indicators of the platform’s health, saying, “The direction we’re heading in feels clearer than ever.”

Total Monthly Active Users (MAUs) rose 10% year-over-year to 678 million, although ad-supported MAUs dipped slightly to 423 million. The strongest MAU growth came from Latin America and the Rest of the World, accounting for 22% and 34% of Spotify’s global base, respectively.

With solid subscriber growth and a strategy to drive profitability through price adjustments, Spotify is positioning itself for long-term strength amid a competitive streaming landscape.
