Sam Bambery Announces The Ōtautahi Triptych Tour

Rising Ōtautahi-based songwriter Sam Bambery is venturing forth on his first ever nationwide tour of Aotearoa in February and March, a long-awaited celebration of his 2022 debut album Songs About Sailors. Expanding his live repertoire with a new trio band format, welcoming on board Theo Tudor (of Senica) and Theo Henderson — affectionately dubbed The Ōtautahi Triptych for the occasion — Bambery has been busy crafting his next masterwork in the studio with producer De Stevens.

Ōtautahi based songwriter and texture-freak Sam Bambery (along with Winegum Records) has announced a debut six-date nationwide tour, cutting across Aotearoa to share his own brand of cathartic sonic candy. Having released his debut alt-country effort Songs About Sailors early last year, Sam goes on the road in trio format at the heels of finishing a new album with up and coming producing wizard De Stevens.

Having long been overshadowed by the spectre of COVID-19, this tour is a long time coming for Bambery, whose flirtations with Ōtautahi’s psychedelic jangle in live shows has seen him pushing away from a country derived songwriting style and into long-form songs echoing the oeuvre of Cass McCombs.

Titled the Ōtautahi Triptych, Bambery shares the moody melancholia of the flat city’s gothic underpinnings with a fresh trio format featuring upright bass and lap steel. Bringing with him the combined force of two of Ōtautahi’s up and coming instrumentalists, Theo Tudor (Senica) and Theo Henderson, these intimate shows are not to be missed.
