Racing announce new album & nation-wide tour
Tuesday 16 August 2022
Hot on the heels of their latest double single release, ‘Southern Lovers’ and ‘Gold’; Racing today announce sophomore album, MUST BE THE MOON, is being released on September 30.
To celebrate its release, the band are hitting the road for a string of spring shows – culminating in a headline slot at Auckland’s Powerstation on November 25. From the provincial pubs to the city centres, the MUST BE THE MOON tour will span both islands and showcase this explosive new record within a notoriously strong live show.
MUST BE THE MOON is Racing’s second self-produced album and follows on from 2018’s REAL DANCING, from which three songs reached number one on the Rock Airplay charts – including smash hit ‘Run Wild’, which spent 50 weeks in the charts. Beginning as a series of rough recordings in 2019, new record MUST BE THE MOON went through several incarnations to get where it is today. Recorded in Auckland’s Lab Studios and mixed by UK legend Dave Eringa (The Who, Manic Street Preachers) the time has finally arrived for its long-anticipated release.
MUST BE THE MOON advances the well-established theme of heavy basslines and hypnotic riffs the band is known for. However, this time it was honed hurtling through the state highways of the countryside, night after night, taking audiences to even further heady heights. An expansive and anthemic element has come to the fore and resulted in some Prince/Ashcroft-esque offerings such as: ‘The Gardens’, ‘Magic Streets’, and ‘The Soul’. If REAL DANCING shimmied like a shark in the shallows, MUST BE THE MOON sails like a falcon in the wind. Brace yourself for some mighty choruses that are likely to be belted out in pubs for years to come.
Not only does this album need to be spinning on your record player this summer, you too should be spinning out of your tree on the dancefloor when the MUST BE THE MOON tour comes your way.
