Paige: Letting Her Grow
Monday 05 July 2021
Over the last few years, Paige has won the world over with her honest and heartfelt songs. The rising star is heading out on her first-ever headline tour and will be gracing the stage in Tauranga in July.
This month Paige released her first new music since her New Zealand music award nominated 2020 EP ‘Always Growing’.
Written in collaboration with Josh Naley (Wells*), Nirob Islam and Shy Martin, ‘Goodbye’ takes Paige’s melodic songwriting to fresh new heights with the unfolding of a break-up song to end all break-up songs.
Her tour comes after a busy summer supporting Six60 in Waitangi and Hamilton, while also appearing at some of the country’s largest festivals, including Homegrown, Peachy Keen, R&V and Bay Dreams.
We had a quick chat with the Tamaki Makaurau based singer-songwriter about life, her tour and sunflowers.
Tell us your story!
I grew up way south of Auckland in Clarks Beach. I’ve loved to sing since I was really really small and I started writing when I was 12!
You write lyrics that evoke a lot of emotion and then pair them with upbeat pop tracks. Would you say your songs show the two sides of your personality?
Yeah for sure! I like to have fun but I really really like to speak about what matters.
What is the significance of the sunflower?
I’ve always loved sunflowers, I’m fascinated by the way they follow the sun, I also LOVE how big they are. I just think they’re beautiful and they’re such a happy flower.
Your very successful EP, ‘Always Growing,’ came out last year, what's been going on since then? How has life changed?
I think I’m honestly learning a lot more about life as an artist and how to be consistent. It’s been a big change so I’m still adjusting but it’s fun!
What/who inspires you right now? What are you listening to, reading and watching?
I’m really inspired by people’s ability to learn from their mistakes. I’ve been inspired by Demi Lovato's growth after their overdose and the documentary they’ve just put out. I’m also inspired by Justin Bieber’s massive ability to learn from his past and do better.
We are so excited to have you in our neck of the woods this month! What can people expect from your show?
A lot of fun! New songs and new upcoming local artists performing!
What’s next for Paige?
New music!
