Jenny Mitchell is a storyteller with songs wrapped in wisdom and wit. An artist who blends folk, alt-country and Americana into her own captivating style.
Her 2018 record Wildfires, produced by Sydney’s Matt Fell, was awarded the 2019 Tui for Recorded Music NZ Best Country Music Artist. The album became the first NZ album to receive a nomination for Alt-Country Album of the Year at the 2020 Australian Golden Guitar Awards.
During the live music drought of 2020, Jenny recorded a live visual EP “The Grainstore Sessions” with her younger twin sisters and her Dad, Ron.
Maegan and Nicola are identical twins with a love of catchy melodies and warm harmonies. Nicola plays baritone ukulele & Maegan on percussion. The pair are inspired by artists such as Kacey Musgraves and Swedish Sister Duo - First Aid Kit. The 2020 Grainstore Sessions Tour was their first touring experience and they simply, “had a ball.”
The Grainstore Gallery is a treasure trove of New Zealand art and a beloved music venue. Located in the historical precinct of Oamaru, the gallery is home to the life’s work of prolific artist Donna Demente. The Mitchell’s created this record nestled amongst many of Donna’s pieces and are proud to showcase a unique part of Southern NZ.
Jenny’s festival performances have included Australia’s Maldon Folk Festival, Nannup Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival and Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington Folk Festivals, along with invitations to play with Tami Neilson, Julia Deans and Felicity Urquhart.
Keeping it real, Jenny regularly tours her music through homes in every nook & cranny of NZ. Her sought-after house concert’s offer an intimate musical experience that delights audiences, bringing local communities together.
