Chris Thompson: Afternoon Shades of Psychedelic Folk and Rock

Tuesday 04 May 2021

Psychedelic folk and blues music legend, Chris Thompson, will be performing with The Dirt Band in Tauranga this Sunday!

Thompson began his music career back in the heady days touring the London and Dublin folk scene in the early 1970's and gained his legendary status by going straight to the top echelons of folk musicians and finger-style guitarist performing in the UK and Europe, with his first three albums since becoming sought after classics.

He has written more than 250 songs, amassed 23 albums, working as one of our last true travelling troubadours and has toured with Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Hanlon, Brownie McGee and Sonny Terry.

His last album ‘Only One Way Out Of Town’ was recorded after lockdown. A live album covering music from his entire career through to now.

This followed a mini album Woodsheddin’ which is made up of new songs as well as a rediscovered concept album recorded in 1974 that turned up in the form of an Apple Corps London master acetate record found on eBay. This master acetate has since been acquired by The National Music Archives in Wellington, where Chris also performed a welcome return lunchtime auditorium concert to conclude the Woodsheddin’ launch tour.
