Can I get a ‘doof doof’?

Ravelife Entertainment are here to shake up the electronic music scene. Since establishing themselves in 2018, the

unique event organisers have hosted four Rewild club nights in Tauranga and Hamilton (the Tauranga ones both sold

out) and an outstanding NYE party to see in the new decade.

But not content with just putting on epic gigs, the team are committed to choosing locations with interest, giving

attendees an experience they won’t forget.

Enter Elektro Hangar, New Zealand’s first music festival inside a warplane museum hangar – Classic Flyers. Their first

event in September 2019 boasted an international line-up, 10 hours of music, and a full festival marketplace which

included food, hair & make-up stalls, festy clothes and a chill-out vape zone.

Elektro II saw 24 New Zealand drum and bass (D&B) and trap artists line two stages in the iconic venue, and now

February is rounding up for a third instalment.

As well as hosting a strong line-up of D&B, dubstep, house and trap artists, this event has a socially conscious twist. As

well as including more than 50% women in the line-up, Elektro III is raising awareness for breast cancer with its pink

theme and a $1 from every pink gin sold on the night goes to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. They also ran a

Facebook competition in the lead-up that asked followers to nominate someone effected by breast cancer to go in the

draw to grab a double pass to the event.

BREAKOUT BOX: Who are Ravelife?

Tell us a bit about yourselves

Our growing team currently consists of six: Joel Steens, Luke Jamieson, Cam Hare, Matte Roffe, Alyssa Entwisle and

myself, Abbie Steens. Prior to Ravelife, Joel’s background was 15 years with a manuka honey company as Operations

Manager, Project Manager & Sales & Marketing Manager. Luke and Cam are electricians; Matte is a professional

dancer and choreographer, and I am a photographer/visual artist. 

How & why did you start Ravelife?

It started with three mates who love music festivals and the grounding elements it provides people. After years of

attending events together, they envisioned creating an atmosphere that combined music, culture and nature, and the

concept of Elektro Hillz was born. From there, their combined vision for a better rave life continued. It has since

progressed into the Rewild Clubdoof series across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, and the Elektro Festival series, which

includes our fan-favourite Elektro Hangar.

What do you want to achieve with Ravelife & your events?

Unite community, nature and music together in unique spaces; something distinctively different from what the North

Island has seen before. We are creating boutique events with diverse demographics under our motto PLUR: Peace,

Love, Unity & Respect. 

What is your take on the current electro scene in the Bay?

New Zealand is seen as the global leader in the D&B scene. Massive D&B acts from around the world are making more

visits here than ever before, selling out shows nationwide. D&B has been building for years in New Zealand with

Rhythm & Vines starting and continuing this over the last decade, and with the addition of newer festivals such as

Northern Bass and Bay Dreams. In 2020, we expect to see bass house, electronic hip-hop and trance develop further

into the scene. 

Who would be your dream artist to get to a Ravelife event?

We’re a diverse team, so each has their own dream artist, but some of these would include Knife Party, Rezz, Sofi

Tucker, Netsky, Fat Boy Slim and Don Diablo. However, if we could bring Avicii back to life, he would be the crew’s top

pick.

What's the best electro gig you've ever been to and why? 

Do we have to choose one?! Skrillex, Knife Party, Calvin Harris and Netsky are all acts we’ve seen play and they are

epic. Simply put, they’re insanely talented artists and they know how to put on a show!
