Calla Aannounces Nationwide Tour for 'Patterns of Remedy'
Monday 08 May 2023
Launching her sophomore album Patterns of Remedy on the 9th of July, Ōtepoti songwriter / soundscape artist Calla is embarking on an extensive Aotearoa release tour, set to kick off in late May with eleven headline dates announced so far. Emerging with 2015's Synthetics EP, the multi-instrumentalist's debut long player My Body of Water followed in 2021, showcasing the strength of Calla’s operatic vocals and sonically boundless, cinematic approach to songcraft. Following recent festival appearances at Twisted Frequency, Burning Horse and Whare Flat Folk Festival, Calla will be joined by variety of special guests on her forthcoming tour, including Keira, Laney Blue, Soft Sad People, Miki Brown, Dubzle, Fizz Face, Meeps and Timpani Decot — performing at her hometown's Dive with backing band The Lillies (Maddy Parkins Craig, Sam Healey, Julion Wright, Michael Morris)
"This is not background music to stand around and yarn to your mates over a cold one, save that for afterwards. This is a listening experience designed to stir the depths of our primal and vulnerable inner worlds."

Calla is a force of nature wielding unique musical skill as a spiritual spellcaster capturing audiences in a suspended time-rift. A master of the-human-voice-as-instrument, electronic musician, violinist, and pianist, Calla is one of those people for whom music is not a pond lightly dabbled in, but an ocean that she calls home. It’s not so much that she plays music; it simply pours out of her. Expect elements of operatic vocals, heavy bass, and homages to the worlds of folk, pop, and cinema epics. If music is the language of the soul then Calla speaks truth in many tongues.
This winter she’s touring Aotearoa with her second album, Patterns of Remedy. The album shows the breadth and depth of her musical palette, with lines of jazz, shades of classical, gradients of bass music, outlines of the experimental, and a background of art-pop. Themes range from the pre-apocalypse golden hour of our civilisation to the thousand hidden kisses of forbidden love, with vast ground covered between.
