Big Bike Film Night

Monday 09 March 2020

Here at bayofplenty.live, we love our bikes – and we love even more when we can sit back and watch someone else do the hard slog too!

Big Bike Film Night is a curated screening of short cycling films from around the world.Starting in 2014, Taupo’s Brett Cotter was inspired to host a film night for bike fans after the newlyinstalled 3m bike statue – celebrating the awesome cycle culture in the city – was vandalised. Big Bike Film Night started as an event to raise funds for the repair of the statue, but has since taken on a life of its own, and now tours around New Zealand to connect and inspire the cycling community.

Now in its sixth year, this year is about finding your ‘why’ and how exploring on two wheels canshow you life and adventure from a new perspective. There’s a story of a seven-year-old girl who likes to ride BMX, an audacious mountain climbing challenge, a tale of trees, traps and trails, three first timers on their way to Ironman Taupō, two friends on an environmental mission, a beautiful story about the power of two wheels and a community built through bicycling and a part documentary/ part fantasy with mountain bike illustrations.
