Thursday 04 May 2023
New Zealand music icon Bic Runga is set to embark on a nationwide tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of her second album, "Beautiful Collision." The tour will take place in July 2023 and will see Runga performing her critically acclaimed 2002 album in its entirety.
"Beautiful Collision" was a massive hit in New Zealand, achieving an impressive eleven-time platinum status and ruling the airwaves with such life-affirming classics as 'Something Good', 'Get Some Sleep' and 'Listening for the Weather.' The album emerged from the early 2000s, a period that was not without its challenges, such as the events of 9/11 and the presidency of George W. Bush.
The multi-award-winning songwriter and producer, whose many accolades include the Silver Scroll award, the New Zealand Order of Merit, and the Legacy Award, will be joined by special guest Georgia Lines for each performance. Lines is a rising star on the New Zealand music scene, known for her soulful vocals and captivating live shows.
The "Beautiful Collision" 20th anniversary tour kicks off on Saturday, July 15, at the Toitoi Opera House in Hastings. The tour then heads to Tauranga's Holy Trinity Auditorium on Saturday, July 22, before stopping at Auckland's Town Hall on Friday, July 28, as part of Elemental Nights 2023. The tour concludes on Sunday, July 30, at the St. James Theatre in Wellington.
In a statement, Runga expressed her excitement about the upcoming tour, saying, "Beautiful Collision was my favorite album to make, and still means a lot to me after twenty years. I hope that if these songs hold a special place for anyone, that they will enjoy celebrating the anniversary of this album with me as a complete concert performance."
As a result of the release of "Beautiful Collision," as well as her other work, Runga has been awarded almost every musical honor in New Zealand, including winning the most Tui Awards by any individual (twenty) and the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll songwriting award. In January 2006, Runga was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, and in 2016, she was the recipient of the Legacy Award at the New Zealand Music Awards and was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
Fans of Bic Runga and lovers of New Zealand music won't want to miss this opportunity to see one of the country's most cherished musical icons performing one of her most beloved albums.
