Welcome to study in 2020!

If you’re heading of to tertiary study of any kind this year, first of all – congratulations! You’re undertaking a cool achievement and we wish you all the best for the year ahead. 

Below are a few key dates for O Week events, as organised by your tertiary provider (and we will have the full programme of non-education provider events on our website as well!) And, here’s a few handy hints for your first day. 

UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO

As a Tauranga student, you will study in a brand-new four-storey campus on Durham Street that features communal study and social spaces, a 24-hour computer lab, library, central atrium, lecture theatres and classrooms, a noho centre called Te Manawaroa, and an open courtyard. A student kitchen provides facilities to heat meals (Monday to Friday only). 

The new campus has multiple accessible entry points and three lifts – two in the south tower and one in the north tower. The campus building is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm. Outside of these times, you can access the building via your student ID – talk to student services to find out more. 

Student services 

The Student Services Team are located in The Hub on Level 1, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. The Student Advisers, Student Success Coordinator and Programme Administrators are available to provide advice and support – everything from initial programme enquiry, enrolment and paper selection, through to examination and graduation and everything in-between. The team are your first port of call for pastoral care, guidance, advice and to answer any questions you may have around navigating University life.

Campus transport and parking

Students are encouraged to take transport options such as public transport (we offer free bus services which you can read more about below), car-sharing and cycling. Bike racks and showers are available for those who choose to cycle to campus. If you plan to drive to campus, there is parking available in public car parks across the road on Durham Street. 

TOI OHOMAI
Toi Ohomai has one main campus in Windermere, which set on 24 hectares of trees and gardens, with several site-specific training centres around the city depending on your choice of study. 

Windermere Campus, or ‘Windy’ as it’s known, features modern lecture theatres, state-of-the-art trades workshops built to emulate industry, purpose-built laboratories, fashion studios, a restaurant, three cafés, a beauty salon, music recording studio and radio station, as well as Te Pare a Ruahine, a fantastic heated pool and gym.

Student Services

The Student Experience Team helps make your life on campus more enjoyable with sports, cultural, and social activities! The highlight for the team are their Orientation events and they also host events throughout the year, including Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week, Matariki festivities to celebrate the Maori new year, multicultural celebrations (such as Diwali and Indian Independence Day), quiz nights, live gigs, markets and more. 

To help make it easier for you to do things on campus, they’ve got an app for students called ‘Toi Ohomai Hub’. It’s your one-stop shop for everything student related – once you’ve got your student user login, download the app by searching ‘Toi Ohomai Hub’ in Google Play or Apple Store.

AND did you know there is FREE breakfast every week during term time for current students provided by the awesome Student Support team? It is current every Monday and Wednesday, 7am – 9am in the Lower Atea.

Campus transport and parking

Windermere is located 15 minutes’ drive from the city centre. There’s free parking at all campuses and as part of the joint venture with the University of Waikato, you also get access to free buses with a flash of your student ID.
