Some years ago a group of women met when their daughters were dancing with Deneze School of Dance.  During that time they danced, organised shows, and - along with their children - became close-knit friends.  The children grew up, the dancing slowed and the shows were no more; but the bond remained strong.

When one of their number, Barb,  lost her battle with cancer in 2003 they were inspired to create a show to celebrate and showcase women’s talents and passion for life.

Many years and shows later, with over a thousand people touching the fabric of the show it has evolved into a bi annual extravaganza and now a documentary following the journey of 5 women.

I had the pleasure of attending the Tarnished Frocks & Divas movie premiere in Tauranga CBD. I pre-judged the film, thinking "this is going to be a bunch of middle-aged women dancing and being silly". I couldn't have been more wrong. I left the theatre feeling empowered, light, joyful and happy.

As a 27-year-old woman, who is terrified at the thought of aging, it unearthed in me the hope and excitement of life after my ‘prime’. The show lifts up women, reminding them that you can still have fun, feel sexy, and be worthy of praise after 40.
