Matariki Rocks!
Thursday 09 July 2020
The sun was out as Okorore Ngā Toi Māori and The Incubator Creative Hub ran an incredible Matariki school holiday event that saw plenty of families flocking to The Historic Village this morning.
The free family event, called Matariki Rock Hunt, had kids and their parents exploring the Historic Village on the hunt with their maps and clues, looking for painted rocks that spelled out a special word around the different stores in the village.
There was a rock painting station and Te Hononga o te Aroha was there, teaching the eager children Flax weaving.
It was for sure a great time for the kids as, while having fun, were also learning about the importance of Matariki and its rich history.
If you missed it this time don't worry! The Matariki Rock hunt will be back Tuesday 14th July, Wednesday 15th July and Thursday 16th July from 11am - 12pm. There will be new clues and some amazing new prizes to giveaway.
